Skinny Lister

Born in the folk clubs of Greenwich, London, Skinny Lister formed in 2009 around Dan Heptinstall, Lorna Thomas and Max Thomas. The band’s identity sits between British folk, indie folk, folk punk and pub rock, driven by collective choruses, traditional-inspired melodies and a stage energy close to punk. Skinny Lister first drew attention with self-released EPs, notably the Grand Union EP in 2010, recorded on a boat along the Grand Union Canal, and Forge & Flagon in 2012. The band moved quickly between folk, indie rock and punk scenes, playing festivals and tours across the UK, Europe and the US, including appearances at SXSW and the Warped Tour, and dates alongside Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys and Frank Turner. Despite several lineup changes, Skinny Lister has retained a tight-knit group format; now a quintet, they continued their trajectory with The Devil, the Heart and the Fight (2016), The Story Is... (2019), A Matter of Life & Love (2021) and Shanty Punk (2023). Their writing blends road tales, maritime culture, drinking songs and rousing choruses within a direct sound that is both acoustic and electric.
