Mad Dog Mcrea
Hailing from Plymouth in Devon, Mad Dog Mcrea has been developing since the early 2000s a repertoire at the crossroads of British folk rock, Celtic traditions, gypsy jazz, bluegrass and acoustic pop songwriting. The band first made its name on stage before capturing this blend on record with Away with the Fairies in 2002 and Sophisticated Hat Manoeuvres in 2006, where traditional tunes, original songs and a strong collective sense of rhythm are already evident. The group broadened its visibility with The Whirling Dervish in 2011, a period when their tracks were broadcast on BBC Radio 2 by Mike Harding. Around the same time Mad Dog Mcrea crossed paths with Seth Lakeman and Cosmo Jarvis, who wrote "Waiting on the Hill", and continued a career rooted in the folk circuit and British festivals, including a slot on the Avalon Stage at Glastonbury in 2013. Their discography also includes the Alive EP (2014), Almost Home (2015) and the It's a Sign EP (2019). Their music rests on a straightforward blend of traditional melodies, rock energy and festive impulses, while remaining firmly anchored in an acoustic foundation.
