Mr. Irish Bastard
Founded in Münster in 2006, Mr. Irish Bastard develops a cross between folk punk, rock and folk rock tinged with Irish imagery, with a lineup built around singer The Irish Bastard and a collective approach in which banjo, mandolin, tin whistle, accordion, guitars, bass and drums play a central role. Mr. Irish Bastard's sound mixes punk energy, pub rock choruses and Celtic melodies, with occasional forays into ska and a marked taste for rearranged covers. After a first EP, St. Mary’s School of Drinking (2006), the band released The Bastard Brotherhood in 2008, then A Fistful of Dirt in 2010, before Never Mind The Bastards - Here Is Mr. Irish Bollocks in 2011, a complete reinterpretation of the Sex Pistols' repertoire. The discography continues with The World, The Flesh & The Devil (2015) and The Desire for Revenge (2018). From the start the band toured intensively in Germany and across Europe, playing alongside Levellers, Fiddler’s Green and The Mahones, and featuring in the circuit of alternative rock and folk festivals. Despite several lineup changes over the years, Mr. Irish Bastard has retained a direct, festive and rough identity, at the crossroads of stage punk and a revisited folk tradition.
