The Mahones
Born in Kingston, Ontario, around singer and guitarist Finny McConnell, who arrived from Ireland as a child, The Mahones took shape on March 17, 1990 with drummer Dom Whelan, who, like McConnell, remained at the core of a frequently renewed line-up. The Mahones developed a Celtic punk in which the energy of punk rock meets traditional Irish melodies, in a band format that has included accordion, banjo, mandolin, harmonica and, at times, bagpipes. Active from early on in the North American contemporary Irish punk scene, The Mahones released Clear the Way (1992), Draggin’ the Days (1994), Rise Again (1996), Here Comes Lucky (2001) and Take No Prisoners (2006), followed by The Black Irish (2010), Angels and Devils (2012) and The Hunger and The Fight (2014). The band toured Canada, the United States and Europe, sharing stages with The Pogues, Dropkick Murphys, Stiff Little Fingers and The Damned, while Terry Woods, Phil Chevron and Scruffy Wallace also joined them at various points.
