Felix Da Housecat
Born in Chicago and raised in the Illinois house scene, Felix Da Housecat—real name Felix Stallings Jr.—began producing in the late 1980s after meeting DJ Pierre, who helped him release his first single, "Phantasy Girl," in 1987. Felix’s trajectory is rooted in Chicago house and acid house, before broadening into a more electro, synth-driven and pop-inflected aesthetic, also drawing on hip-hop and R&B. In the 1990s he released records such as "Thee Dawn," "By Dawn’s Early Light" and "Thee Industry Made Me Do It," and issued "In The Dark We Live (Thee Lite)" under the alias Aphrohead; he also founded the label Radikal Fear Records. In the early 2000s Felix Da Housecat became a central figure in the electroclash moment with the album Kittenz and Thee Glitz (2001), made with collaborators like Miss Kittin and Tommie Sunshine, followed by Devin Dazzle & the Neon Fever (2004), Virgo Blaktro and the Movie Disco (2007) and He Was King (2009). His work alternates between dry, urgent club tracks, prominent synth lines, pop references and overtly processed vocals. He has also maintained a steady remixing career for artists such as Madonna, Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, New Order and Pet Shop Boys, while remaining active on the international house and electro scenes.
