Gente de Zona

Formed in the early 2000s in Havana, Gente de Zona belongs to the Cuban reggaeton current—often called cubatón—blending Spanish rap, melodies close to timba, and rhythms from urban popular music. Initially conceived as a collective around rapper Alexander Delgado, the Gente de Zona project evolved into a stable duo when singer and musician Randy Malcom Martínez joined in 2011 after a background in Cuban salsa. On stage, Gente de Zona emphasizes a strong vocal format supported by a rhythm section and brass that anchor the project in an urban party aesthetic, between Caribbean club sounds and the conventions of Latin pop. Their collaboration with Enrique Iglesias and Descemer Bueno on “Bailando” in 2014, and later with Marc Anthony on “La Gozadera,” opened the group to recurring collaborations with the international Latin scene. The albums “Visualízate” (2016), “En letra de otro” (2018) and “Otra cosa” (2019) confirm this move toward a hybrid format—between tropical song, radio-friendly reggaeton and the legacy of Cuban dance orchestras—which Gente de Zona now presents on major stages across Latin America, Europe and North America.
