Monolake

Launched in Berlin in 1995 by Robert Henke and Gerhard Behles, Monolake became part of the German electronic scene of the late 1990s with an approach that sits between dub techno, minimal techno and ambient. The earliest records on Chain Reaction feature restrained rhythms, deep bass, reverberant textures and a marked attention to sonic space. After Hongkong (1997) and Interstate (1999), Monolake expanded into a broader format with Cinemascope and Gravity in 2001, and later with Momentum (2003) and Polygon Cities (2005), where the structures grow more detailed and abstract. Torsten Pröfrock joined the project in 2004, before Monolake was subsequently continued by Robert Henke alone. Later releases — including Silence (2009), Ghosts (2012), VLSI (2016), Archaeopteryx (2020) and Studio (2024) — extend this precise, both physical and contemplative aesthetic, in which techno pulses blend with stripped-down sonic materials. Monolake also operates within the context of audiovisual performances and live shows conceived as open forms, between club, festival and immersive presentation.
