Samm Henshaw
At the crossroads of retro soul, gospel, and contemporary R&B, Samm Henshaw crafts a world where voice and songwriting take center stage, with songs built around organic grooves and choral refrains. Born in London in 1994 as Iniabasi Samuel Henshaw, the British artist of Nigerian heritage grew up immersed in church music, which fuels the spiritual and communal dimension of his work. Henshaw first drew attention in the mid-2010s with the EPs "The Sound Experiment" (2015) and "The Sound Experiment 2" (2016), where soul, hip-hop flourishes, and pop sensibility intertwine. His writing addresses relationships, doubt, faith, and everyday life in a direct voice, often laced with humor and self-deprecation. From 2018 onward, he released a flurry of singles and collaborations, notably "Doubt" with Wretch 32 and "Church" with EarthGang, boosting his international profile. His debut album, "Untidy Soul," released in 2022, extends this aesthetic, emphasizing live arrangements, vocal harmonies, and a narrative approach that secures Samm Henshaw’s place within the new English-speaking soul scene.
