Jordan Rakei
Born in Tokoroa, New Zealand in 1992 and raised in Brisbane before moving to London in 2015, Jordan Rakei develops a style situated between contemporary soul, jazz, alternative R&B and trip‑hop, with songwriting focused on voice, keyboards, guitar and production. He first attracted attention with the EPs Live at Recording Oasis and Franklin’s Room in 2013, followed by Groove Curse in 2014, which already revealed a taste for supple rhythms, jazz harmonies and hushed electronic textures. After arriving in the UK, Rakei moved through the London scene between beatmaking, neo‑soul and modern jazz, collaborating notably with Disclosure on “Masterpiece” (2015) as well as with FKJ, Tom Misch and Nightmares on Wax. His debut album Cloak was released in 2016, followed by Wallflower (2017), Origin (2019), What We Call Life (2021) and The Loop (2024). At the same time he has released house- and broken‑beat‑oriented tracks under the alias Dan Kye, notably the EP Joy, Ease, Lightness (2016). His repertoire blends soul singing, organic arrangements, syncopated grooves and restrained production in a format that alternates introspection, melodic sensibility and rhythmic focus.
