Polyphia

Formed in Plano, Texas, in 2010, Polyphia initially developed around guitarists Tim Henson and Scott LePage before taking shape as a quartet with bassist Clay Gober and drummer Clay Aeschliman. The band gained attention in the instrumental scene after the online circulation of the track «Impassion» from the 2013 EP Inspire, and by sharing bills with acts such as Periphery, Between the Buried and Me and August Burns Red. Polyphia’s early material sat in a metal and shred register, but their aesthetic quickly shifted toward a clearer intersection of instrumental rock, progressive rock, hip‑hop, funk, pop and electronic textures, with a marked taste for trap‑inspired rhythms and tightly cut melodies. That direction became more defined on Muse (2014), Renaissance (2016) and New Levels New Devils (2018), before opening up further on Remember That You Will Die (2022), where Polyphia broadened contrasts in tone and featured guests including Steve Vai on «Ego Death». In 2023 Polyphia also released the live album Live at the Factory in Deep Ellum, recorded in Dallas.
