Plini

Plini Roessler-Holgate, a guitarist and composer based in Sydney, Australia, has been developing an instrumental solo project since the early 2010s that emphasizes detailed melodic writing and progressive structures. Initially distributed online, his music moves between rock and progressive metal, with jazz-fusion influences and more ambient atmospheres, and a strong emphasis on dynamic variation and irregular meters. Plini released a first series of self-produced EPs—including Other Things and Sweet Nothings in 2013, and The End of Everything in 2015—that established his name on the modern guitar scene. His first full-length album, Handmade Cities, appeared in 2016 and defined a sound where lead guitars converse with dense harmonic textures. He followed with the EP Sunhead in 2018 and the album Impulse Voices in 2020, which deepened the blend of progressive elements, jazz touches and more contemplative passages. In 2023 the EP Mirage continued this exploration of instrumental metal with fluid contours. On stage Plini performs under his own name with a band, appearing in specialist clubs, prog stages and festivals, and frequently collaborating with musicians from the progressive, djent and fusion spheres.
