Neophyte

Formed in 1992 around Jeroen Streunding, Danny Greten and Robin van Roon, Neophyte became part of the gabber scene in Rotterdam and Schiedam, Netherlands, at a time when Dutch hardcore was taking shape. The project developed a frontal, fast and dense sound built on hammered rhythms, saturated kicks and short vocal samples, with an aesthetic positioned between old-school hardcore, gabber and more modern hardcore. The first releases, The Three Amiga’s E.P. and Protracker E.P. in 1993, followed by Noise Is the Message in 1994, quickly established Neophyte’s identity, continued by Execute in 1996 and Real Hardcore in 1997. After Robin van Roon’s departure, Jarno Butter joined for live performances, while Neophyte carried on with Not Enough Middle Fingers in 2000, At War in 2001, InvasionInvasion in 2007, and Mainiak: Chapter 1 in 2011 and Mainiak: Chapter 2 in 2013. Remaining associated with Rotterdam Records and later Neophyte Records, the name also circulated through other aliases linked to its members, such as Bodylotion or Masters of Ceremony, and regularly crossed paths with hardcore scene artists like The Stunned Guys, Evil Activities, Tha Playah, Promo and Angerfist.
