Peter Hook and The Light
Founded in Manchester in 2010 by bassist and songwriter Peter Hook following his departure from New Order, Peter Hook and The Light revolves around a rock band made up of British musicians closely linked to the local scene. The project focuses on live reinterpretations of the Joy Division and New Order catalogues, with themed tours on which Peter Hook and The Light often perform albums in their entirety, from the dark early post‑punk to the new wave and electronic inflections that emerged in the 1980s. This approach foregrounds melodic bass and guitars while retaining the synthesizer lines and dance‑driven energy associated with these bodies of work. Primarily a live act, Peter Hook and The Light documents its tours through a series of live recordings released over the years, capturing contemporary readings of songs originally composed by Joy Division and New Order. The band plays clubs, mid‑size venues, and festivals, appealing both to audiences attached to Manchester’s post‑punk heritage and to listeners discovering this catalogue through Peter Hook and The Light’s updated versions.
