Spear Of Destiny
Founded in London in 1982 by Kirk Brandon and Stan Stammers in the wake of Theatre of Hate, Spear Of Destiny occupies a crossroads between post-punk, alternative rock and new wave. Their taut sound—sharp guitars, prominent bass lines and frequent use of saxophone—ties them closely to the British scene of the 1980s. From the outset the band operated with a variable line-up, with Kirk Brandon remaining the creative centre through numerous personnel changes. After Grapes of Wrath (1983), the group refined its songwriting on World Service (1985) and Outland (1987), albums that broadened their style without abandoning the post-punk energy of their beginnings. The career that followed includes several reformations and returns to the studio, with records such as The Price You Pay (1988), Volunteers (2000), Omega Point (2010), 31 (2014) and Tontine (2018). Over the years the band has also featured musicians who had played with The Sisters of Mercy, The Mission, Adam and the Ants or New Model Army, reflecting its enduring roots in the British rock and post-punk scenes.
