Escape With Romeo
Formed in Cologne in 1989 around Thomas Elbern, Escape With Romeo lies in a dark wave, post-punk and rock lineage tinged with electropop, with a marked balance between melodic guitars, nocturnal moods and electronic elements. Before Escape With Romeo, Thomas Elbern had already played in Seltsame Zustände and later at Pink Turns Blue, placing the band in the continuum of the German wave scene at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s. The first Escape With Romeo album appeared in 1990, followed notably by Autumn on Venus in 1992, Next Stop Eternally in 1993 and Blast of Silence in 1996, as Martin Pott joined the band’s keyboard identity on a lasting basis. After several releases on Sound Factory, Escape With Romeo issued its records from 2001 onward on Zeitklang Records, a label founded by Elbern, with Come Here White Light (2001), Love Alchemy (2002), Psalms of Survival (2004), Emotional Iceage (2007), Samsara (2012), After the Future (2015) and then Suspicious Bliss (2024). Active on gothic, wave and European alternative stages, Escape With Romeo put its trajectory on hold after a farewell tour in 2018 and a few dates in 2019, before resuming activity in 2022 with a new lineup and the compilation Based on a True Story - Best of Escape with Romeo.
