Nuttea

Settled early in the Paris region after a childhood in Guadeloupe, Nuttea, also known as Daddy Nuttea, established himself in the 1990s on the French sound system scene, between reggae, ragga and dancehall. Rooted in Caribbean sound system culture, Nuttea refined his style in Parisian clubs and parties, developing a melodic singing voice combined with a more rhythmic phrasing characteristic of francophone ragga. His first recordings and his microphone appearances with collectives close to the Raggasonic movement placed him within a landscape then taking shape between rap and reggae. The release of the album Un signe du temps in 1998 marked an important milestone, opening his reggae to R&B and pop influences, while Urban Vibes in 2004 extended this exploration of more urban and electronic formats. Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Nuttea alternated solo projects, contributions to compilations and collaborations with various artists from the French rap and reggae scenes, while remaining associated with an aesthetic in which sound system culture, Caribbean heritage and writing in French occupy a central place in his artistic trajectory.
