Pit Baccardi

Born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, as Guillaume N’Goumou, Pit Baccardi emerged in the late 1990s in the wake of the Time Bomb collective, alongside a generation renewing French rap. His writing fits a boom bap aesthetic marked by measured flows, a taste for direct lines and an alternation between street tracks and more introspective pieces. After his period with Time Bomb, Pit Baccardi became close to Secteur Ä and also took part in the Première Classe label venture, a structure linked to several notable compilations of the era. As a solo artist, Pit Baccardi released the album Pit Baccardi in 1999 and Le Poids des maux in 2002, two records that show an evolution from confrontational rap toward more personal themes. A project titled Ghetto Ambianceur was also released in 2000. Subsequently, Pit Baccardi developed a career as a producer and music entrepreneur between France and Cameroon, notably with Empire Company, while remaining associated with the history of francophone rap in the 1990s and 2000s.
