Doc Gynéco

Born in Clichy-sous-Bois, Bruno Beausir emerged under the name Doc Gynéco in the early 1990s on the Seine-Saint-Denis rap scene, first around Ministère A.M.E.R. and later within the Secteur Ä collective. Doc Gynéco early on developed a distinctive approach to French rap, with a relaxed delivery often close to spoken word, and tracks that blend rap, G-funk, reggae, funk and chanson. This softer, more melodic aesthetic runs through Première Consultation (1996), the album that firmly established his universe of everyday stories, humor, sexuality and social observation. He continued in this vein with Liaisons dangereuses (1998) and Quality Street (2001), emphasizing sung choruses and arrangements more open to pop. His subsequent discography includes Solitaire (2002), Un homme nature (2006) and Peace Maker (2008). Linked to the Secteur Ä generation while following a singular trajectory, Doc Gynéco occupies a particular place in French rap thanks to his vocal nonchalance, West Coast American influences and French popular references.
