YaniSs Odua
Based between Martinique and France, Yaniss Odua has been a fixture on the francophone reggae scene since the 1990s, developing a style at the crossroads of roots reggae and Caribbean dancehall. Singing in French and Creole, his repertoire addresses social realities, everyday life and attachment to the Caribbean, with phrasing that alternates melodic singing and the energetic delivery of a toaster. He first made his mark on the sound system circuit and in club shows, before structuring his work around a live band and regular studio activity. The release of the album “Yon pa yon” in 2002 marked his first record milestone, followed by “Un autre soleil” in 2013 and “Moment idéal” in 2017, which confirmed his move toward a modern reggae blending Jamaican, francophone and Antillean influences. With “Stay High” in 2022 he continued this trajectory, incorporating more contemporary nuances in rhythms and arrangements while remaining rooted in a reggae and dancehall aesthetic. Frequently sharing stages with the European and Caribbean reggae scenes, Yaniss Odua has built a steady career of recordings, tours and collaborations.
