Mefjus

Born in Linz, Austria, Martin Schober first develops a musical practice linked to trumpet study before producing hip-hop in his teens, then turning to drum and bass under the name Mefjus. Active since the early 2010s, Mefjus has established himself in a dense, precise neurofunk vein, based on tense rhythms, sculpted basslines and meticulous sound design that place him at the crossroads of technical, dark and highly physical drum and bass. After early tracks released on several labels in the scene, he signs with Critical Music, where his debut album Emulation appeared in 2014, followed by Vision Recordings for Manifest in 2018. His career also develops through regular collaborations with producers such as Noisia, Phace, Emperor, Rido, or the Austrian duo Camo & Krooked, with whom he founded Modus to frame their joint projects. Mefjus evolves as much in clubs as at major drum and bass and electronic festivals, solo or back-to-back, with a regular presence on European and international circuits. His aesthetic has gradually widened his spectrum, while keeping a neurofunk base and incorporating more melodic, kinetic or soundsystem culture-inspired approaches.
