Matt Andersen
Situated between the North American and European blues scenes, Matt Andersen is rooted in the small town of Perth-Andover, New Brunswick, where he began performing in the early 2000s. A singer and guitarist, he moves between blues, folk, soul, and roots rock, often favoring an acoustic approach and writing that centers on everyday stories and rural landscapes. After several self-released records, Andersen drew attention with 'Second Time Around' (2007) and then 'Coal Mining Blues' (2011), which cemented a direction that blends blues heritage with contemporary songwriting. Albums such as 'Weightless' (2014), 'Honest Man' (2016), 'Halfway Home by Morning' (2019), and 'The Big Bottle of Joy' (2023) carry that trajectory forward, spanning soul ballads, more rock-driven tracks, and intimate pieces. Alternating solo shows with tours alongside his band, Andersen plays everything from clubs to major blues and folk festivals, and regularly undertakes one-off collaborations with musicians from the Canadian and American roots scenes.
