Matt Andersen brings The Hammer & The Rose Tour to the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver on March 2, 2026. Rooted in Perth-Andover, New Brunswick, the singer-guitarist weaves blues, folk, soul and roots rock with a mostly acoustic touch and a storyteller’s eye. From Second Time Around and Coal Mining Blues to Weightless, Honest Man, Halfway Home by Morning and The Big Bottle of Joy, his songs track everyday lives and wide-open backroads, shifting from hushed ballads to earthy, rolling grooves. On stage, Andersen moves between bare-bones guitar-and-voice moments and fuller arrangements, letting the melodies breathe while the playing carries the narrative.
Also on the bill, Calgary’s Mariel Buckley brings a strand of Canadian alt-country that leans into Americana and folk rock. Her writing favors slow-burn or mid-tempo pulses, saturated guitars and a low register that frames stories of the road, family ties, doubt and identities slightly off-center. After Driving in the Dark (2018) and Everywhere I Used To Be (2022), she continues to shape a sound that refreshes classic country forms without losing their grain, performing solo or with an electric band.
