Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar

Founded in Toronto around Samantha Martin’s voice, Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar work within a soul and rhythm-and-blues tradition with gospel and roots influences. Backed by a full vocal section and a rhythm section rooted in the groove, the band builds a repertoire that blends soul ballads, rock inflections and echoes of traditional music from the American South, with particular attention to harmonies and choral arranging. The project emerged in the mid-2010s on the Canadian blues and soul scene with the album “Send the Nightingale” (2015), followed by “Run to Me” (2018), which confirmed the group’s strong soul orientation, and “The Reckless One” (2020), which introduced more rock and retro-R&B colors. In studio and on stage Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar operate as a variable collective centered on Samantha Martin’s voice and a core of regular musicians from Toronto’s roots scene.
