Lloyd
Born in New Orleans and raised in Decatur, Georgia, Lloyd — born Lloyd Polite Jr. — is part of the 2000s American R&B scene, known for songs about romantic relationships, supple vocals and a sound that mixes ballads, mid-tempo grooves and hip‑hop touches. He began very young as a member of the boy band N-Toon in the late 1990s before launching a solo career on The Inc./Murder Inc. His debut album Southside was released in 2004, led by the title track with Ashanti. Lloyd broadened his audience with Street Love in 2007, which included You with Lil Wayne and Get It Shawty, and followed with Lessons in Love in 2008. Around the same time he also appeared on BedRock with the Young Money collective, anchoring him in the mainstream R&B and rap landscape of the late 2000s. After leaving The Inc. he joined Zone 4/Interscope and released King of Hearts in 2011. Quieter for several years, Lloyd returned independently with the single Tru in 2016 and the album Tru in 2018, in a more introspective vein while remaining true to melodic, direct R&B.
