Laure Briard
A French singer-songwriter associated with Toulouse, Laure Briard has developed since the mid-2010s a writing style situated between French pop, folk, light psychedelia and Brazilian colours. She first made her mark with songs that revisited certain codes of 1960s pop without resorting to pastiche, favouring clear melodies, soft textures and a voice often placed at the forefront, as on Révélation (2015). Over the course of her records, her repertoire has opened up to other rhythmic and harmonic circulations, nourished by trips to Brazil, exchanges with the band Boogarins and several recordings in Portuguese. This evolution is evident on Cita (2019), where Laure Briard brings chanson, bossa nova and psych-pop closer together in a looser, more mobile format. With Ne pas trop rester bleue (2023), she tightens her approach further around more pared-down tracks, marked by muted keyboards, discreet guitars and a consistent taste for airy arrangements. Her career sits within an independent scene where yé-yé references, psychedelic reverie and intimate songwriting coexist.
