Marillion
Formed in the late 1970s in Aylesbury, England, Marillion belong to the revival of British progressive rock, blending 1970s heritage with a more direct songwriting approach. The band attracted attention in the early 1980s with singer Fish, a theatrical aesthetic and albums such as "Script for a Jester’s Tear" (1983), "Fugazi" (1984) and "Misplaced Childhood" (1985), where they developed long pieces that are both melodic and narrative. At the end of the 1980s, Fish’s departure and the arrival of Steve Hogarth marked a new, more introspective phase, evident on "Seasons End" (1989) and later "Brave" (1994), combining progressive rock, atmospheric pop and more contemporary textures. The stable lineup around Steve Rothery, Mark Kelly, Pete Trewavas, Ian Mosley and Hogarth has enabled Marillion to maintain a cohesive group effort in the studio and on stage. From the late 1990s the band experimented with online crowdfunding for tours and recordings, consolidating an active international fan community. Albums like "Marbles" (2004), "F E A R" (2016) and "An Hour Before It’s Dark" (2022) continue this approach, favouring long formats, thematic cycles and songwriting that mixes progressive rock with pop, ambient and occasional electronic influences.
