Roger Waters

Born in Great Bookham in Surrey and raised in Cambridge, Roger Waters first makes his mark within Pink Floyd, the band he co-founded in the mid-1960s with Nick Mason, Richard Wright and Syd Barrett. Bassist, singer and above all lyricist, he gradually takes a central place in the band's direction after Barrett's departure, developing a writing style marked by progressive rock, psychedelic rock and art rock, with a strong penchant for concept albums, fragmented narratives and political or autobiographical themes. His name remains associated with Pink Floyd records such as The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977), The Wall (1979) and The Final Cut (1983). After leaving the group in 1985, Roger Waters pursued a solo career in a conceptual and narrative vein with The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking (1984), Radio K.A.O.S. (1987), Amused to Death (1992) and Is This the Life We Really Want? (2017), as well as the opera Ça Ira (2005). His tours, often built around entire repertoires or monumental staging, regularly revisit Pink Floyd's heritage while extending his concerns about war, power, alienation and the media. Roger Waters has since the 2000s continued to alternate between creations, reinterpretations and large international stages.
