Steve Hackett

English guitarist and composer Steve Hackett, born in 1950 in London, rose to prominence in the early 1970s as a member of Genesis, which he joined in 1971 and with whom he recorded landmark progressive rock albums such as "Nursery Cryme" (1971), "Foxtrot" (1972), "Selling England by the Pound" (1973) and "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" (1974). Alongside Genesis he released his first solo album, the symphonic‑oriented "Voyage of the Acolyte" (1975), before leaving the band in 1977 to develop a solo career that blended progressive rock, classical influences and touches of world music. The 1970s and 1980s saw albums such as "Spectral Mornings" (1979) and the acoustic "Bay of Kings" (1983), which established his dual electric and instrumental profile, while the GTR project, a mid‑1980s partnership with Steve Howe, explored a more mainstream rock direction. From the 1990s onward Hackett alternated classical guitar releases, contemporary progressive projects and reinterpretations of his catalogue with "Genesis Revisited" (1996) and "Genesis Revisited II" (2012), which he regularly performed live with his band. Recent releases like "At the Edge of Light" (2019) and "Surrender of Silence" (2021) extend this aesthetic of long, structured pieces, orchestral arrangements and a guitar style that combines atmospheric moods, detailed acoustic passages and the legacy of British progressive rock.
