La Oreja de Van Gogh

Formed in San Sebastián, in the Spanish Basque Country, La Oreja de Van Gogh established itself in the late 1990s with a melodic pop-rock repertoire driven by tightly crafted choruses, discreet keyboards and a constant focus on narrative lyrics. Initially formed around Xabi San Martín, Pablo Benegas, Álvaro Fuentes and Haritz Garde, the group took off with Amaia Montero on vocals, then won the Pop-Rock Ciudad de San Sebastián contest before releasing Dile al sol in 1998. La Oreja de Van Gogh then followed with El viaje de Copperpot in 2000, Lo que te conté mientras te hacías la dormida in 2003 and Guapa in 2006, refining a style positioned between Spanish pop, ballads and light electronic touches. After Amaia Montero's departure in 2007, Leire Martínez joined the lineup and opened a second period with A las cinco en el Astoria in 2008, then Cometas por el cielo in 2011, El planeta imaginario in 2016 and Un susurro en la tormenta in 2020. Over the years, La Oreja de Van Gogh developed a regular presence on Spanish and Latin American stages, with some acoustic or live projects like Primera fila in 2013. The band has also carried out several occasional collaborations, notably with Natalia Lafourcade on 'María'. In 2024, Leire Martínez left the band, marking a new turning point in the history of La Oreja de Van Gogh.
