Ana Torroja
Born in Madrid in 1959, Ana Torroja rose to prominence in the 1980s as the voice of the Spanish band Mecano, a pop and synth-pop group that left a mark on the Iberian scene before splitting in the early 1990s. From the mid-1990s she pursued a solo career focused on Spanish-language pop and contemporary ballads, while retaining traces of the electronic aesthetic inherited from Mecano. Her first solo album, Puntos cardinales, was released in 1997, followed by Pasajes de un sueño in 1999 and Fragil in 2003, which consolidated her presence on stages in Spain and Latin America. In 2006, Me cuesta tanto olvidarte revisited Mecano songs in a more intimate setting, while Sonrisa (2010) continued a bright, melodic pop vein. The live project Conexion, released in 2015, brought together a repertoire combining Mecano songs, solo material and collaborations. The singer alternates tours in Spain, Latin America and Spanish-speaking communities in the United States, and occasionally collaborates with Latin pop artists such as Aleks Syntek or Miguel Bosé. Ana Torroja's work is characterized by a melodic approach centered on the voice and accessible pop arrangements, ranging from ballads to mid-tempo tracks with subtle references to the electronic pop of the 1980s.
