Qual

The project led by British musician William Maybelline, who is also active in the duo Lebanon Hanover, Qual sits within a dark post‑industrial vein that intersects EBM, darkwave and sounds close to power electronics. Born out of the European coldwave scene and often linked to the alternative circuits between the UK and Germany, Qual is notable for compositions driven by mechanical rhythms, prominent synthetic basslines and a deliberately abrasive vocal approach. The first album, Sable (2015), established an aesthetic centered on hypnotic repetition, cold electronic textures and a claustrophobic atmosphere; in 2017 The Ultimate Climax extended this by adopting more frontal, dance‑oriented structures while retaining an introspective dimension. On stage, Qual channels this tension into minimalist yet intense sets, preferring clubs and festivals dedicated to goth, industrial and darkwave music, thereby maintaining a direct connection with an audience accustomed to the darker aesthetics of electronic music.
