Johnny Mafia

Formed in Sens in 2010, Johnny Mafia brings together four musicians who first spread their energy on stage before establishing their name in the French indie rock scene. The band develops a sound positioned between garage rock, melodic punk, power pop and indie rock, driven by dense guitars, direct rhythms and short songs where urgency remains central. After an initial period marked by a lo-fi and abrasive aesthetic, Johnny Mafia gradually refines its writing without abandoning a frontal approach. The band's discography includes Michel Michel Michel (2018), followed by Princes de l’amour (2019), recorded with Jim Diamond, before Sentimental in 2021, released by Howlin’ Banana Records, where the whole leans more toward crisper melodies and references that bring its universe closer to 1990s alternative rock. Anchored in the circuit of independent venues and festivals, Johnny Mafia built itself through live performances, in France as on DIY rock scenes, with a collective identity that rests as much on live tension as on a taste for immediately catchy hooks. Johnny Mafia thus operates in a register where saturation, punk nervousness and a sense of pop intersect, without tipping into glossy production.
