LANY
Formed in Los Angeles in 2014, LANY initially brought together Paul Jason Klein, a Tulsa, Oklahoma native, Les Priest, and Jake Goss, all of whom had come up through the Nashville scene before relocating to California. The project first took off online with melodic pop driven by understated synths, processed guitars, and intimate vocals—somewhere between dream pop and indie pop with R&B inflections. After several EPs, LANY released a self-titled debut album in 2017 that cemented an aesthetic of direct hooks, atmospheric textures, and urban tales of romance, followed in 2018 by Malibu Nights, a more stripped-down record where piano and ballads take on greater prominence. The band then broadened its range with 2020’s Mama’s Boy, marked by more explicit nods to American pop-rock, and with 2021’s gg bb xx, which leans toward more immediate, radio-oriented songwriting. Reduced to a duo after Les Priest’s departure in 2022, LANY continues with Paul Jason Klein at the center of the writing and Jake Goss on drums, while pursuing one-off collaborations—particularly with Lauv and Julia Michaels—and developing a repertoire designed for international tours across clubs, mid-size venues, and festivals.
