Under the stage name Lauv, American singer-songwriter Ari Staprans Leff has, since the mid-2010s, been crafting melodic pop infused with electronic and R&B influences, focused on romantic relationships, intimacy, and mental health. Born in 1994 in San Francisco and later based on the U.S. East Coast, Lauv honed his production and songwriting in New York, where he launched his self-produced project and drew online attention with the single “The Other” in 2015, quickly followed that same year by the EP “Lost in the Light.” While working as a lyricist and composer for other pop artists, Lauv refined a sound built around clear vocals, streamlined structures, and understated electronic textures. The 2018 compilation “I met you when I was 18. (the playlist)” gathered his early standout tracks and firmly established him on the international pop scene. His debut studio album, “how i’m feeling,” arrived in 2020 and broadened his world toward more introspective writing, followed by “All 4 Nothing” in 2022, which continued in that vein with more organic arrangements. Frequently featured on projects by artists such as Troye Sivan, Anne‑Marie, and BTS, Lauv alternates collaborations, tours across North America, Europe, and Asia, and solo work that remains focused on accessible, emotive, song‑oriented pop.
