Counting Crows

Formed in the early 1990s in Berkeley, California, Counting Crows established themselves on the American rock scene with a blend of alternative rock, folk rock, and Americana influences. Centered around singer and songwriter Adam Duritz, the band developed a sound built on melodic guitars, prominent piano, and narrative, often introspective lyrics. The release of the album August and Everything After in 1993, driven by the single 'Mr. Jones,' brought Counting Crows to a wide audience, followed by the albums Recovering the Satellites (1996), This Desert Life (1999), and Hard Candy (2002), which extended this approach, ranging from ballads to more electric tracks. Their contribution to the Shrek 2 soundtrack with 'Accidentally in Love' in 2004 further rooted Counting Crows in the pop-rock culture of the period. The records Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings (2008) and then Somewhere Under Wonderland (2014) reaffirm the band’s interest in contrasts between introspective songs and more rock-oriented styles. Regularly touring in the United States and abroad, Counting Crows gives ample space to improvisation and variation in their concerts, carrying onto the stage a songwriting approach centered on Duritz’s voice and a marked taste for organic arrangements.
