Kenny Wayne Shepherd

Guitarist and composer Kenny Wayne Shepherd, born in 1977 in Shreveport, Louisiana, emerged in his teens on the American blues-rock scene with a style deeply steeped in Texas blues and the legacy of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Performing under his own name or as the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band, he has, since the mid-1990s, built a repertoire centered on energetic electric blues, blending rock elements with more melodic touches. His debut album, Ledbetter Heights (1995), established him in the contemporary blues landscape, followed by Trouble Is... (1997) and Live On (1999), which confirmed his move toward an expanded power-trio format featuring a solid rhythm section and, from the late 1990s onward, the recurring presence of vocalist Noah Hunt. Across albums such as The Place You’re In (2004), the documentary and musical project 10 Days Out: Blues from the Backroads (2007), How I Go (2011), Goin’ Home (2014), Lay It On Down (2017), The Traveler (2019), and Dirt On My Diamonds, Vol. 1 (2023), Shepherd alternates original compositions, covers of standards, and collaborations with musicians from the blues and rock worlds, while remaining anchored in a direct, expressive electric-guitar aesthetic.
