Honeymoon Suite

Formed in the early 1980s in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Honeymoon Suite carved out a place on the Canadian rock scene with a blend of melodic hard rock, AOR influences, and FM-friendly pop rock. Built around singer Johnnie Dee and guitarist Derry Grehan—the band’s core—Honeymoon Suite broke through in 1983 with “New Girl Now,” a track born from a Toronto radio contest that opened the door to Canada’s bigger stages. The self-titled debut, Honeymoon Suite (1984), set the template with hook-laden guitars and sing-along choruses, while The Big Prize (1985) and Racing After Midnight (1988) carried that formula into keyboard- and harmony-driven arena rock. In the 1990s, the band took a darker, more mature turn with Monsters Under the Bed (1991), then kept a lower profile while remaining active on the road. Their return to the studio in the early 2000s with Lemon Tongue (2002), followed by Clifton Hill (2008), reaffirmed a commitment to their original aesthetic without severing ties to their 1980s roots. Alternating between quieter spells and renewed activity, Honeymoon Suite continues to perform in various lineups centered on Dee and Grehan, moving between nostalgia circuits, rock festivals, and mid-sized venues across North America.
