Chilliwack

Formed in Vancouver, Canada, in the late 1960s from the ashes of the psychedelic band The Collectors, Chilliwack initially developed a rock sound with psychedelic and progressive leanings before gradually shifting toward a more melodic, radio-friendly format. Centered around singer and guitarist Bill Henderson—the group’s linchpin despite numerous lineup changes—Chilliwack spent the 1970s exploring a blend of rock, folk, and pop across a series of albums, including the two self-titled records Chilliwack (1970 and 1971), followed by All Over You (1972) and Riding High (1974). The late 1970s and early 1980s saw the band move toward a more direct FM rock style, exemplified by Dreams, Dreams, Dreams (1976), Wanna Be a Star (1981), and Opus X (1982), where guitar lines meet catchy choruses and songwriting centered on Henderson’s voice. Chilliwack secured a lasting place in the English-speaking Canadian rock scene—between local clubs, North American tours, and festivals—and has continued to perform intermittently in a streamlined configuration, its repertoire remaining tied to classic rock that mixes ballads with more up-tempo numbers.
