Glass Tiger

Formed in 1983 in the Canadian town of Newmarket, Ontario, Glass Tiger inhabits a pop-rock vein that blends melodic rock, soft rock, and mid-’80s new-wave accents. Initially active under the name Tokyo, the band’s early lineup centered on singer Alan Frew, guitarist Al Connelly, keyboardist Sam Reid, bassist Wayne Parker, and drummer Michael Hanson. Glass Tiger broke through with the 1986 album The Thin Red Line, produced with Jim Vallance and propelled by tracks like “Don’t Forget Me (When I’m Gone)”—featuring Bryan Adams—and “Someday.” They followed with 1988’s Diamond Sun, which emphasized a more mature pop-rock songwriting approach, then 1991’s Simple Mission, with a rockier edge and highlighted by the duet “My Town” with Rod Stewart. Glass Tiger’s sound rests on Alan Frew’s clear vocals, highly melodic choruses, and a balanced interplay of keyboards and guitars, spanning ballads and mid‑tempo numbers. After a quieter 1990s, the band returned to the road in the 2000s and 2010s, alternating tours across North America and the United Kingdom, electric and acoustic formats, and new recordings revisiting their original repertoire.
