Triumph

Formed in Mississauga, Ontario, Triumph established themselves from the mid-1970s in a hard rock style interwoven with heavy metal and progressive touches. The trio permanently united Rik Emmett on guitar and vocals, Mike Levine on bass and keyboards, and Gil Moore on drums and vocals — a lineup that marks a large portion of their career and explains the alternation between direct tracks, more crafted harmonies, and instrumental developments. After Triumph in 1976 and Rock & Roll Machine in 1977, the group broadened its audience with Just a Game in 1979, then Progressions of Power in 1980, Allied Forces in 1981 and Never Surrender in 1982. Triumph's sound rests on massive riffs, melodic choruses, precise guitar work, and increasingly expansive production through the 1980s, particularly on Thunder Seven in 1984, The Sport of Kings in 1986 and Surveillance in 1987. Very present on stage in North America, Triumph also built its reputation through concerts and major tours. After Rik Emmett's departure in 1988, Phil X joined the group for Edge of Excess in 1992, before a hiatus in 1993. Triumph reformed periodically in 2008 and again in 2019, and relaunched its live activity from 2025, extending the story of a band often associated with the Canadian rock scene of the 1970s and 1980s.
