Israel Nash

Born in Missouri in 1981 as Israel Nash Gripka, Israel Nash developed a songwriting voice that sits between American rock, indie rock, folk and americana, often shaded with a psychedelic hue and arrangements that blend expansive guitars, pedal steel and group harmonies. After a stint in New York from 2006—playing Lower East Side clubs like The Living Room and Rockwood Music Hall—he released New York Town in 2009 and Barn Doors and Concrete Floors in 2011, the latter recorded in New York State with Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth co-producing and on drums. Later based in Dripping Springs, Texas, Nash rooted his music more deeply in a rural, collective setting, surrounded by a steady band with whom he recorded Rain Plans (2013) and Silver Season (2015). His path continued with Lifted (2018), Topaz (2021) and Ozarker (2023), albums where his songwriting keeps a folk‑rock foundation while expanding toward a more atmospheric, luminous rock. He also appears alongside The Bright Light Social Hour on the Neighbors EP (2016) and moves in circles with musicians connected to Midlake and BNQT, which places him between the Texas scene, the americana tradition and indie rock.
