Spineshank

Formed in Los Angeles in 1996 out of the ashes of Basic Enigma, Spineshank rode the late‑1990s American metal wave with a sound mixing nu metal, industrial metal and alternative metal, where taut riffs meet programmed elements, electronic textures and vocals that shift between melody and abrasive tension. Spineshank first released Strictly Diesel in 1998, then refined this approach on The Height of Callousness in 2000, an album that established them on international metal circuits and took them, notably, to Ozzfest in 2001. With Self-Destructive Pattern in 2003, Spineshank kept that heavy, mechanical base while sharpening the effectiveness of the choruses; the track "Smothered" earned the band a 2004 Grammy nomination in the metal category. After singer Jonny Santos left the same year, Spineshank went through an unstable period before reforming in 2008 with its core lineup around Santos, Robert Garcia, Tommy Decker and Mike Sarkisyan. That reunion produced Anger Denial Acceptance in 2012, released on Century Media. Silent after 2016, Spineshank resurfaced in 2025 with a new live lineup led by Jonny Santos, Robert Garcia and Tommy Decker, confirming the return of a band whose identity still rests on the balance between rhythmic impact, industrial tension and direct songwriting.
