Black Foxxes

Born in the early 2010s in Exeter, UK, Black Foxxes craft an alternative rock that blends indie, late-period grunge and post-hardcore atmospheres. Initially formed as a trio around singer/guitarist Mark Holley, they first established themselves on the local scene before touring more widely across the UK and then Europe, playing independent rock circuits and specialist festivals. Their first calling card came with the EP “Pines” in 2014, followed by the album “I’m Not Well” in 2016, which defined the band’s signature: often saturated/distorted guitars, tense and fragile vocals, and a taste for progressively building tension. In 2018, “Reiði” heightened the contrasts between calmer passages and rougher detonations, while giving more space to melody and more open structures. The self-titled record “Black Foxxes” released in 2020 marked a new phase, with more expansive songwriting in which the trio explores airier textures and atmospheres sometimes bordering on post-rock, without abandoning a direct rock framework. Black Foxxes’ lyrics address mental health, chronic illness and intimate relationships in a candid way, anchoring the project in an introspective register while retaining a strong live dimension in its sonic approach.
