Eric Gales
Born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1974, Eric Gales established himself from adolescence with a guitar playing forged in blues, rock and soul, nourished by Jimi Hendrix’s heritage as well as by his city’s tradition. Launched in the early 1990s with Eric Gales Band, he released The Eric Gales Band in 1991 and then Picture of a Thousand Faces in 1993, before pursuing a career where blues rock readily blends with hard rock, funk and psychedelic inflections. His musical story is also linked to his family, notably within the Gales Brothers with Left Hand Brand in 1996, and to a broad scene of collaborations ranging from the Hendrix tribute Experience Hendrix to the Pinnick Gales Pridgen trio, active on record in 2013 and 2014. Over the 2000s and 2010s, Eric Gales has released a string of albums, among them That’s What I Am in 2001, Relentless in 2010, Transformation in 2011, Middle of the Road in 2017, The Bookends in 2019 and Crown in 2022. His style rests on nervy phrasing, a strong improvisational sense and a way of making electric blues, rock riffs and Southern groove dialogue with each other, in formats ranging from trio to fuller ensembles. Eric Gales has also played in varied contexts, from the international blues circuit to rock festivals, while contributing as a guest on numerous projects.
