Poised between indie pop and intimate folk, dodie has, since the early 2010s, pursued songwriting centered on voice, harmony, and a direct use of autobiography. Born in 1995 in Epping, England, Dorothy Miranda Clark first came to prominence by posting covers and original compositions on YouTube under the moniker doddleoddle, before moving to London and performing increasingly frequent solo and small-ensemble shows. Her recording career has been built around self-produced EPs—Intertwined (2016), You (2017), Human (2019), and Hot Mess (2022)—in which acoustic guitars, understated string arrangements, and more assertive pop touches converge. In 2021, her debut full-length, Build a Problem, deepened this introspective approach, addressing mental health, intimacy, family, and romantic relationships with a blend of contained melancholy and subtle orchestral inflections. Active on the British independent scene and online since her teenage years, dodie continues to divide her time between recording, touring in the UK and internationally, and occasional collaborations with fellow songwriters of her generation.
