Haley Heynderickx
Between Portland, Oregon’s independent folk scene and a family background split between the United States and the Philippines, Haley Heynderickx has developed an intimate songwriting style centered on acoustic guitar and voice. Born in Stockton, California, and later based in Oregon, Heynderickx emerged in the mid-2010s with the EP "Fish Eyes" (2016), which already showcased her fingerpicking and introspective, everyday-observant writing. The 2017 release of the collaborative project "Among Horses III" with Max García Conover placed her within a network of contemporary folk musicians committed to stripped-down formats and small-ensemble recordings. The 2018 album "I Need to Start a Garden" confirmed her move toward an indie-folk sound with 1960s and 1970s influences, blending fragile melodies, dynamic shifts, and subtle touches of folk-rock. Heynderickx’s lyrics often address intimacy, doubt, or spirituality in a contemplative tone without heavy narrative devices, while the arrangements remain centered on the guitar, occasionally enriched by light brass or understated vocal accompaniment. On stage she performs solo or with a small group, favoring mid-sized venues, community spaces, and selected festivals devoted to folk and independent music in North America and Europe, in keeping with the artisanal aesthetic of her recordings.
