Etienne Jaumet
Born in Versailles in 1970, Étienne Jaumet emerged on the French independent scene in the late 1990s with The Married Monk, before opening a more overtly instrumental and electronic side in the mid‑2000s with Zombie Zombie, a duo formed with Cosmic Neman. On saxophone and keyboards, Étienne Jaumet develops music that sits between krautrock, electronica, space disco, free jazz and film‑inspired textures, with a marked taste for repetitive motifs, hypnotic pulses and gradual buildups. This aesthetic appears in his group work as well as his solo output, notably on Night Music (2009), made with Carl Craig, where Jaumet extends a dialogue between cosmic pads, minimal rhythms and very spare melodic lines. He has also collaborated with several figures from the French scene while circulating between festivals, clubs and venues within the independent rock circuit.
