Rubin Steiner
Born in Tours as Frédéric Landier, Rubin Steiner has developed since the late 1990s a career situated between electronic music, nu jazz, post-rock, krautrock, house and disco-punk. His writing is built on repetitive rhythms, sound collages and guitars and basses treated within an aesthetic closely tied to DJ culture. He worked at Radio Béton, where he hosted the show Nuisances Sonores, and initially emerged from a local scene that combined fanzines, concert promotion and groups like Merz or Camping Car, before releasing Lo-fi nu jazz in 1998 and Lo-fi nu jazz vol. 2 in 2000. Across his records, Rubin Steiner moved toward a more direct and hybrid electronic approach on Wunderbar drei (2002), Drum Major (2005), Weird Hits, Two Covers and a Love Song (2008), Discipline in Anarchy (2012), Say Hello to the Dawn of Paradox (2019) and then Banananas (2023) with The Dictaphone. His activity also includes remixes, music for theatre, dance and documentary, and collaborations with Ira Lee, Luz and Yuksek. Parallel to this, he continues to work as a DJ, producer and cultural programmer, notably in the Tours area.
