City of the Sun
Born on the streets of New York, City of the Sun developed from the early 2010s an instrumental approach centered on two acoustic guitars and percussion, led by John Pita, Avi Snow and Zach Para. The trio first gained attention playing in parks and the New York subway before moving into small venues and later embarking on wider tours across the United States and Europe. City of the Sun’s music blends flamenco-like guitar lines, rhythms drawn from indie rock, folk inflections and references to Latin American music, with ample space for improvisation and collective dynamics. The pieces, entirely instrumental, often function like soundscapes, alternating repetitive melodic motifs, builds in intensity and more contemplative passages. In 2016 City of the Sun released the album To the Sun and All the Cities in Between, which captured in the studio a repertoire developed on stage, and they have since continued regular recordings and concerts, from intimate clubs to festivals, maintaining an acoustic aesthetic focused on live energy and the interaction between the three musicians.
