Aukai
Born in East Germany under the name Markus Sieber, Aukai develops a path that first goes through the 1990s alternative rock scene in Berlin before turning to a more contemplative instrumental writing, nourished by his stays in Mexico and then the United States. Based for a time in Tepoztlán, he deepens his relation to traditional musics and makes the charango, as well as classical guitar, the center of a language situated between neoclassical, acoustic folk, ambient and cinematic composition. Aukai publishes a first self-titled album in 2016, then builds a regular discography with Branches of Sun in 2018, Reminiscence in 2019, Game Trails in 2020, Entretanto in 2021, Apricity in 2022, Apricity B-Sides and Versions in 2023, Temporal in 2024 and Chambers in 2026. His music rests on delicate motifs, plucked strings, chamber arrangements and atmospheric textures that stay sober and melodic. Over the years, Aukai collaborates notably with Anne Müller, Parra for Cuva and Jamshied Sharifi, while developing work for image, with compositions for cinema and series from 2023, including El Portal: La historia oculta de Zona Divas in 2024, co-written with Clarice Jensen.
